I'm pretty proud of this logo. It's late and it's primitive, but I really like it. It's not perfect, mind you, but I'll get it there eventually. I would like to have the 'b' in Brady be part of, or come out of, the light bulb. Until I learn a technique to accomplish that, I'll keep working at it and use this as my logo.I want to thank two people for their help with this project: my wife, who sat and brainstormed with me and was kind enough to say she likes the results, despite it not being exactly how she'd like it. And I'd like to thank Fabian, who got me started on the lightbulb by showing me some awesome techniques in class.

"Images of the imagination"

It looks good Brady. You picked up manipulating the vertices really fast. Here are some of my thoughts on what can be done to improve the design overall. It's not particularly a critique in technique than it is a critique in the design. As Ben says, there are multiple ways to do any one thing, but the design will be what truly makes a design work.
ReplyDeleteI think that the scale of the "-rady" is a bit too small. The dynamic shift in scale creates an awkward shift in legibility. I think scaling the other letters up would also position the letters so that the dot of the second i in imaging wont enter the space of the a in brady.
I like the beveling in the light bulb and the lettering. I think that the intensity of the beveling on the screw portion of the light bulb is pretty high for the size of the actual components. I don't remember how well you to round out the beveled edges, but I think a softness would help the forms.
My final criticism would be the font for the text itself. I know that you probably have no experience with typography or typefacing, but with a image like the light bulb, considering how the curves and negative space of the font relate to those in the imagecan really make the two objects appear more unified. This font is on the right track. I know that you had originally planned to attach the b to the light bulb, but you made a good decision in choosing a clean sans-serif tyepface and scaling the b to fit the screw portion of the bulb.
Overall, it is really good for the amount of time you put into it. Knowing what you know now, you could easily make adjustments and fine tune it into something your wife is gonna be proud of! Good work!
Fabian a.k.a. the Wannabe Hero
Fabian took the words out of my mouth. However I also would like to point out something....This logo is false advertising, no Brady has ever had a good thought, imagination, or a lightbulb moment or atleast not one thats not been made fun of.
ReplyDeleteYou should have used like a army knife, a bag of potato chips, and a video game and called it Brady Imaging-We do normal shit, dig it.
lol, I like it Shawn... potato chips and an army knife... "We do normal shit".
